  • 1 large large cabbage head
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey Can substitute with ground chicken or a meat substitute
  • 1/2 cup cooked rice Can substitute with cooked quinoa for a healthier option
  • 1 small finely chopped onion
  • 1 can tomato sauce Use extra for serving if desired
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • Herbs (like dill or parsley) for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and blanch the leaves in boiling water for about 2-3 minutes until soft.
  3. In a bowl, mix the ground beef or turkey, cooked rice, chopped onion, salt, and pepper.
Assembly
  1. Take a cabbage leaf and place a spoonful of the filling at the base of the leaf, folding in the sides and rolling it tightly.
  2. Place each roll seam-side down in a baking dish.
  3. Pour tomato sauce over the rolls and cover with foil.
Baking
  1. Bake for 1 hour, removing the foil for the last 15 minutes.
  2. Serve hot and garnish with herbs.

Notes

Ensure the cabbage leaves are very soft for easy rolling. Do not overfill the cabbage leaves. Adjust seasonings to taste. Serve with extra tomato sauce on the side for dipping.
