Filling Ingredients
  • 2 cups mushrooms, finely diced Any variety of mushrooms can be used.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For sautéing mushrooms.
  • 1 sheet puff pastry Thawed if frozen.
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded Can substitute with Cheddar or Fontina.
  • 1 large egg For egg wash.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning the mushroom filling.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and sauté until they are soft and moisture has evaporated, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut slits on the sides to create braiding.
  4. Spread the mushroom mixture in the center of the pastry, then sprinkle the Gruyère cheese on top.
  5. Fold the pastry over the filling, alternating sides to create a braid.
  6. Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden finish.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden and puffed.
  2. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

This braid can be served warm or at room temperature, perfect for parties or casual evenings. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat for optimal flakiness.
