  • 1 sheet puff pastry (about 250 g), thawed Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed.
  • 150 g ham, thinly sliced or diced
  • 150 g cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or Gruyère), grated Experiment with different types of cheese for unique flavors.
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard or mayonnaise (optional) Adds flavor, optional.
  • Black pepper, to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a floured surface and cut it into squares.
  3. Place a slice of ham and a sprinkle of grated cheese on one half of each square.
  4. Optionally, add a small amount of Dijon mustard or mayonnaise and sprinkle with black pepper.
  5. Fold the other half of the pastry over to create a pocket and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  6. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  7. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These pockets can be served warm or at room temperature. They pair well with a fresh salad or vegetable sticks. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze them for longer storage.
