Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup cane sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups unsalted butter (cold) Make sure it is cold before starting.
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and place cold butter inside, folding the dough over to encase it.
  6. Roll out again and fold into thirds to create layers. Repeat this process three times, chilling the dough as needed.
  7. Roll out the final dough and cut into triangles. Roll them up to shape the croissants.
  8. Place them on a baking sheet and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush croissants with egg wash.
  2. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!

Notes

Croissants can be served warm or at room temperature. They are delicious on their own or with butter, jam, or honey. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage.
