  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup lard, shortening, or butter
  • 1 cup sweet milk or buttermilk
  • to taste Sugar (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Sift the self-rising flour into a bowl.
  2. Work in the lard, shortening, or butter until well combined.
  3. Add sweet milk or buttermilk to the mixture.
  4. If desired, add sugar.
  5. Mix until a dough forms, then knead gently.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut into desired shapes.
Baking
  1. Bake in a preheated oven at 450°F (230°C) for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

To store leftover biscuits, let them cool completely, then place them in an airtight container. They will stay fresh for a few days at room temperature. If you want to keep them longer, you can freeze the biscuits for up to three months. Make sure your ingredients are cold for better rise.
