If you want crispy fries without using oil, here are some key tricks to get them just right:

1. Choose the Right Potato

  • Russet potatoes work best because they have a high starch content, which helps with crispiness.

2. Cut & Soak

  • Cut the potatoes into fries and soak them in cold water for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight). This removes excess starch, making them crispier.
  • Drain and pat them completely dry with a towel.

3. Use Cornstarch or Baking Powder

  • Lightly toss the dry fries with cornstarch or baking powder. This helps create a crispy outer layer when they cook.

4. Cook at High Heat

  • Air Fryer: 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, shaking halfway through.
  • Oven: 425°F (220°C) for 30-40 minutes, flipping halfway. Use a wire rack on the baking sheet for better air circulation.

5. Don’t Overcrowd the Tray

  • Spread them out so they crisp up instead of steaming.

6. Finish with Seasoning

  • Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, or smoked paprika after cooking for the best texture.
