Savory Puff Pastry with Minced Meat and Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 lb (250g) minced meat (beef, pork, or chicken)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven

Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Prepare the Filling

  • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add 1 chopped onion and cook until soft.
  • Stir in 1 clove minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Add minced meat and cook until browned.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and paprika (if using).
  • Remove from heat and let it cool.

3. Roll Out the Pastry

  • Lay the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  • Roll it out slightly if needed.

4. Assemble

  • Spread the cooled meat mixture over half of the pastry.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top.
  • Fold the pastry over the filling and press the edges to seal.
  • Use a fork to crimp the edges.

5. Egg Wash

  • Beat 1 egg and brush it over the pastry for a golden crust.

6. Bake

  • Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

7. Serve

  • Let cool slightly before slicing.
  • Enjoy warm!
