Homemade Soft Caramels Recipe
These buttery, chewy caramels melt in your mouth and are perfect for gifts or treats!
Ingredients
✔️ 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
✔️ 1 cup light corn syrup
✔️ 2 ½ cups granulated sugar
✔️ 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
✔️ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
✔️ ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Prepare Your Pan
- Line an 8x8-inch or 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper and lightly butter it.
2. Heat the Ingredients
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Stir in corn syrup, sugar, and sweetened condensed milk.
3. Cook to the Right Temperature
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon.
- Cook until the temperature reaches 240°F (115°C) on a candy thermometer (soft-ball stage).
- This takes about 15-20 minutes.
4. Add Flavor & Set
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
- Pour into the prepared pan and let cool at room temperature for 2-3 hours.
5. Cut & Wrap
- Once firm, cut into small squares and wrap in wax paper.
Tips for Perfect Caramels
