Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pockets
These flaky, buttery, and cheesy puff pastry pockets make a delicious snack, appetizer, or quick meal!
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 4 slices ham (or more, depending on size)
- 4 slices cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or Gruyère work well)
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 4 equal rectangles.
- Assemble:
- Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on each rectangle (optional).
- Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on one side of each rectangle.
- Fold the pastry over to cover the filling, forming a pocket. Press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
- Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water together. Brush the tops of the pastry pockets with the egg wash for a golden, glossy finish.
- Bake: Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Cool & Serve: Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
Variations:
- Add spinach or caramelized onions for extra flavor.
- Use different cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, or brie.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning on top before baking.
