Here's an easy homemade bread recipe that requires minimal ingredients and effort!
Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose or bread flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast (or active dry yeast)
- 1 ¼ cups (300ml) warm water (about 40°C)
- 1 tablespoon sugar or honey (optional, for a slight sweetness)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter (optional, for extra softness)
Instructions:
-
Activate the Yeast (if using active dry yeast) – In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. (Skip this step if using instant yeast.)
-
Mix the Dough – In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil (if using). Stir with a spoon or use your hands until a dough forms.
-
Knead the Dough – Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. (If using a stand mixer, knead with a dough hook for 5 minutes.)
-
First Rise – Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place until it doubles in size.
-
Shape the Dough – Punch down the dough to release air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan (or shape it into a round and place it on a baking sheet).
-
Second Rise – Cover and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
-
Bake – Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
-
Cool & Enjoy – Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
This bread is soft, fluffy, and perfect for sandwiches or toast! Let me know if you’d like variations (whole wheat, no-knead, etc.).
