Deep Dish Apple Crisp

A Deep Dish Apple Crisp is a warm, comforting dessert with a thick layer of spiced apples and a crunchy, buttery topping. Here’s how to make it!

Ingredients:

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6-8 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (for thickening)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold, cut into cubes)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Set to 350°F (175°C) and grease a deep baking dish.

  2. Prepare the Apples:

    • Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
    • In a large bowl, mix apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, cornstarch, and vanilla.
    • Pour into the greased deep baking dish.
  3. Make the Crisp Topping:

    • In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
    • Cut in the cold butter using a fork or your hands until the mixture becomes crumbly.
    • Stir in chopped nuts if using.
  4. Assemble & Bake:

    • Evenly spread the topping over the apples.
    • Bake for 45-50 minutes until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  5. Cool & Serve:

    • Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
    • Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!

Would you like a caramel drizzle or extra crunch in the topping?
