Caramel Flan

Here’s a simple Caramel Flan (Crème Caramel) recipe for you to try at home:

Ingredients:

For the Caramel:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp water

For the Flan:

  • 2 cups milk (or evaporated milk for a richer taste)
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Caramel:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat ½ cup sugar and 2 tbsp water over medium heat.
  2. Stir gently until the sugar melts and turns golden brown.
  3. Quickly pour the caramel into a baking dish or ramekins, swirling to coat the bottom. Set aside.

2. Make the Flan Mixture:

  1. In a pot, heat 2 cups milk with ½ cup sugar until warm (don’t boil). Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. In a bowl, whisk 3 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla extract.
  3. Slowly add the warm milk to the eggs while whisking to prevent curdling.

3. Bake the Flan:

  1. Pour the mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  2. Place the dish in a larger baking pan and fill the outer pan with hot water (bain-marie).
  3. Bake at 160°C (320°F) for 45-50 minutes, until set but slightly jiggly in the center.

4. Cool & Serve:

  1. Let the flan cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight).
  2. Run a knife around the edges and invert onto a plate to release the caramel.

Enjoy your homemade caramel flan! Let me know if you need any tips.
