  • 2 cups (475ml) warm water (about 43°C / 110°F)
  • ⅔ cup (135g) granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons (14g) active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup (60ml) vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 6 cups (750g) all-purpose flour

Instructions:

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Stir until dissolved.
  2. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. Add oil and salt to the yeast mixture.
  2. Gradually mix in flour, 1 cup at a time, until the dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 3: First Rise

  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour (until doubled in size).

Step 4: Shape the Bread

  1. Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal parts.
  2. Shape each part into a loaf and place in greased 9x5-inch loaf pans.
  3. Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
  2. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Brush the tops with butter for a soft crust (optional).

Step 6: Cool & Enjoy

  1. Let the bread cool before slicing. Enjoy fresh or toasted!
