Here's a simple homemade doughnut recipe for soft, fluffy, and delicious treats!
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F/45°C)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
For Frying:
- Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a small bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
2. Shape and Fry the Doughnuts:
- Roll out the dough to about ½-inch thick on a floured surface.
- Cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small for the center).
- Place cut doughnuts on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel.
3. Make the Glaze:
- In a bowl, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Dip warm doughnuts in the glaze and let excess drip off.
- Let them sit on a wire rack until the glaze sets.
