Homemade Butter Biscuits Recipe


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (or whole milk)
  • 1 tbsp honey or sugar (optional, for a hint of sweetness)
  • Extra melted butter for brushing (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 2: Add Liquid & Form Dough

  1. Pour in the buttermilk and mix gently until a dough forms. Do not overmix!
  2. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and gently fold it over itself a few times to create flaky layers.

Step 3: Shape & Bake

  1. Roll or pat the dough to about ¾-inch thickness.
  2. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Step 4: Finish & Serve

  1. Brush the warm biscuits with melted butter for extra flavor.
  2. Serve warm with butter, honey, or jam!

Tips for Perfect Biscuits:

Use cold butter – This helps create flaky layers.
Don’t overwork the dough – Handle it gently to keep it light and airy.
For extra fluffiness, let the cut biscuits rest for 5 minutes before baking.
